International Airlines Group (IAG) is the first airline group worldwide to commit to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. By doing so, the airline group — which include British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling and Level — will contribute to both the UK government’s commitment to a net zero carbon economy by 2050 and the United Nations’ objective to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. The Group’s new emissions goal will be achieved through numerous environmental initiatives, including investing US$400 million in SAF in the next 20 years. This includes BA’s partnership with specialist company Velocys to build Europe’s first household waste to jet fuel plant in the UK which will start operations in 2024.
